WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE
A teacher by profession, Divya Gaikwad donned the role as corporator of ward 64 at Vashi as debut corporator in 2014. However, being a woman of substance eased her way into being a public representative. From the first official meeting in NMMC till date, no other corporator perhaps has studied, voiced and taken up public proposals and issues in her ward, and of Navi Mumbai like she has. Within a year of becoming corporator, she earned the tagline of being the ruling front’s only firebrand corporator.
DARES TO STAND UP AGAINST OWN PARTY AND NMMC ADMINISTRATION IF ANY PROPOSAL IS AGAINST PUBLIC INTEREST
What sets Divya Gaikwad apart from colleagues of her own party and opposition parties is that she does not believe in boot-licking style of politics. It then doesn’t matter if it’s her own leaders or NMMC administration. She dares to stand up in what she believes is right and in public interest. The manner in which she took on the NMMC administration over GPS watches or went after them for ignoring the condition of the water tank in her ward, she misses no issue that needs correction.
She also became the voice of issues in regards to NMMC’s fogging contract, the defunct environment committee, electric crematoriums to arrest environment pollution, wastage of power on street lights, NMMC’s negligence leading to collapse of foot-over bridge, cleanliness of holding pond in her ward and the GST scam that plagued the NMMC administration

Of all issues she has taken up, one that raised the pedestal of being a public voice was when she went against her own party to expose fraudulent promises made by architect Milind Pawar. It was on her behest that the NMMC administration intervened and made citizens of her ward aware of the fraud plans of redevelopment he was offering citizens. On several occasions, she fearlessly took on Mayor J D Sutar as well.

The strength of Divya Gaikwad lies in the fact that along with her husband Vaibhav Gaikwad, they team up to be grounded to reality of changing times in a digital era.
