In an engine, cylinder bores house the pistons that move in pre-set rhythm to combust fuel. Pistons move at high speeds and can cause damage to the bores. To prevent this, manufacturers use a ‘liner’ that acts as a shield between the piston and the cylinder bore. This liner is very vital to the health of the engine because faults in its placements can lead to severe consequences. To mitigate risks and quality concerns, our team devised a tool that measures the alignment of each liner in an engine. The tool enabled the floor associates to accurately measure and record the placement of liners and catch errors in advance.
