Key Strategy: Discuss with a Buddy

Key Strategy: Discuss with a Buddy Encourage conversation through “neighbor share/pair share”.
Opportunities to discuss help with furthering comprehension and practice their language skills.

At the start of the activity, try having kids say hi to the person sitting next to them and let them know they’ll be solving a puzzle (or some other kid-friendly language) together later. Have them share the answer to a low stakes question, like their favorite color. This can help shy kids prepare to talk with another they may not know well. In the moment, allow them to “pass” and think about their answer silently if they’d rather.
