Her Grandma Keeps Falling out of Her Wheelchair, so She Installs a Camera to See If Nurses Are Lying

Her Grandma Keeps Falling out of Her Wheelchair, so She Installs a Camera to See If Nurses Are Lying When you start to get older, your body won't move the way it once did, and your mind won't work the way it once did. When you get to a certain point, you won't be able to care for yourself any longer. Many people who get to this point don't want to be a burden on their families, so they move to a nursing home. The people who work in these care facilities are trusted to care for their charges in the most professional and caring way.

For the most part, the people who work in nursing homes are kind, caring, and compassionate. According to an organization called Nursing Home Abuse Justice, there are five million elder abuse cases reported every year. Approximately 10 percent of people over the age of 60 have reported being abused. These are horrible statistics. People trust those caring for them to do just that. They never expect someone who had chosen a career in taking care of others to be abusive, but it happens.

Minnie Graham was a 98-year-old great, great grandmother. She lived a full and wonderful life. When she got too old to care for herself, she didn't want to bother her children, her grandchildren, or her great-grandchildren by moving in with them. She knew that it would a burden for her family to take care of her. She decided that she would move into a Garland Hospice called Winters Park Nursing Home. She and her family thought that it would be the perfect place for her to live and get the care that she needed. Sadly, she was wrong.

When Minnie's family would go visit her, they often noticed bruises on her body. When they asked the staff about the bruises, they would tell Minnie's family that she had fallen out of her wheelchair. When Minnie's family asked her about it, she told them that the staff member was lying. Minnie told her family that she was being mistreated and that there was one worker who was especially cruel. Due to her age, Minnie wasn't able to explain the severity of her situation. Minnie's family questioned the hospice worker, and they said nothing happened except for Minnie falling out of her wheelchair.

Minnie's family couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible was happening to her. They decided to get the proof that they needed. A family member went out and bought a clock that contained a hidden camera. They figured that if someone was abusing Minnie that it would be caught on camera.

A few days later, Minnie's family came to get the camera so that they could watch the footage. What they saw was horrifying. It turned out that Minnie was telling the truth. When one of the workers was giving Minnie a bath, he cursed at her the whole time. He sprayed Minnie in the face with a water bottle, and he shoved a wet cloth into Minnie's mouth. It was the same wet cloth that he had just used to wash Minnie. This was horrible, but it got worse. The worker then started hitting Minnie while mocking her. The entire family was outraged.

As soon as the family saw the video, they knew that they had to do something. Because they no longer trusted the staff at the nursing home, they went directly to the police with the secret footage. The wanted justice for Minnie. They also wanted to help protect the other residents of the nursing home who may not have had families to notice the bruising on their bodies or the changes in their demeanor.

Iwuchukwu Ekechukwu also went by the name, Louis. He was one of the people in the video, and the police went to his home and arrested him. He was charged with felony injury to the elderly. This charge carried a hefty penalty and also resulted in him losing his nursing home license.

Brenna Tiller was identified as the other staff member who was abusing Minnie. After Louis was arrested, Brenna disappeared. She moved away and began working at another facility. The police tried to track her down. Finally, they found her and arrested her. She was convicted of a felony and was given five years probation, and her nursing home license was revolved.

After pressing charges against the responsible parties, Minnie's family also filed a lawsuit against the nursing facility. What these people did to Minnie is horrible. Her family is just happy that they were able to protect her from these horrible people. Nobody should be treated this way at any age. Grandma keeps 'falling out of wheelchair' so she installs a camera to see if nurses are lying. They got the proof that they needed to get justice for Minnie.
