What Can I Do? My Gas Fireplace Log Fell Out of Place Behind the Glass!

What Can I Do? My Gas Fireplace Log Fell Out of Place Behind the Glass! Jeremy Biswell Live from Fluesbrothers World Headquarters on Black Friday! So… Last Night the Direct Vent Gas Fireplace at our home made a little noise while we were watching TV. Turns out that one of the Logs in the Firebox decided it was time to move out of position. It actually fell over and now looks really out of place. Now this can cause the flame to burn in a way that doesn’t look quite right with the log in the wrong spot! Of course the Gas Fireplace has a glass covering so the logs are not readily accessible without first removing that.

We happen to have a nice set up right here in the shop that I can use to illustrate exactly what you need to do to remedy the situation if this ever happens to you. Yes, you can actually fix this yourself - or you can contact us to do a service call and make sure everything is working just right.

Step 1 - VERY IMPORTANT - Shut the Fireplace Off & Let The Unit Cool Down!
This will take quite some time, but you certainly don’t want to try holding hot glass or moving the log set pieces right after they were at a very high temperature.

Step 2 - Remove the glass. While the glass is open you can grab some glass cleaner and use this opportunity to clean things up inside and out.

Step 3 - Remove the fallen log and look at the display to discern exactly where it needs to be placed to look right. You may want to refer to your owners manual or look the unit up online to see how things should look. You should see indications in the shapes of the logs underneath to help you find exactly where the errant log can nest right back in where it belongs.

Step 4 - Close the glass carefully and test the unit to be sure it looks the way it should!

FYI - The owners manuals for most every fireplace can be found online if you can’t locate your original copy.

Simple fixes like this are easy for some folks, but we do understand that everyone is not willing to “do-it-yourself” - so please call us anytime you need our help!
