Understand Remainder in 18 seconds

To find the remainder of a number simply divide. Then multiply only the integer part of your answer by the number you divided by. Subtract this answer from the number you're dividing.

Example: find the remainder of
12 / 7
divide.
12 / 7 = 1.71428....
discard the fractional part and multiply by 7 (the number we're dividing by):
1 × 7 = 7
subtraction to find the difference:
12 - 7 = 5
so the answer is:
12 / 7 = 1 remainder 5
