Spiced Turmeric Golden Milk

Winters are here finally. I love Winters in India what with the pleasant climate and less heat and sweat. But they also bring along incessant cold and cough especially in kids.

My father always said "Cold and cough gets treated with doctor's medicine in a week and without it in seven days." Though I didn't understand that as a kid, now as a mother of two kids, I have come to understand it's meaning very well 😀

Trust me it works better than any antibiotics for cold. I have been trying this remedy for my kids even in the extreme winter of Europe. They used to even go ice-skating and swimming in the cold. I used to give them this before going to bed at night and they very rarely caught any cold.

Let's discuss the ingredients:

1. Cinnamon is an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory compound.
2. Ginger can treat nausea, sore throat, muscle pain and cold.
3. Saffron is used as antiseptic, anti-oxidant and anti-depressant.
4. Cardamom can cure constipation, lack of appetite, heartburn, bloating, acidity and nausea.
5. Clove is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antioxidant and anti-flatulent.
6. Curcumin in turmeric is an anti-inflammatory compound.
7. Pepper contains Vitamins K, C, minerals like iron, potassium, manganese, fibre, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents
which prevent infections.

Let's get to the recipe now.

Ingredients
------------------
1 cup Milk
1/4 cup Water
1/4 tsp Cinnamon powder
1/4 tsp Dry Ginger powder
1/4 to 1/2 tsp Turmeric
Big Pinch of Pepper
Pinch of Cardamom powder
Pinch of Nutmeg powder
Pinch of Clove powder
Few strands Saffron
1 tbsp Honey

Method
------------
1. Heat the water. Add the spice powders cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, pepper, nutmeg, ginger.

2. Simmer for a min, then add the milk. Bring it to a boil and add the turmeric. Summer it for 5 mins.

3. Add the honey and switch off the flame. After the milk cools a bit filter it.

4. Add the saffron strands and serve.

Notes
---------
1. It's best to have this milk warm. If the kids don't like it warm, at least try to make the kids drink it at room temperature.

2. If it taste to spicy for your kid you can double the amount of milk for the spices.
