DO YOU REMEMBER that good old southern cooking? When I was growing up, my granny was my favorite cook. My mama was an amazing cook as well, but there was just something about being in granny’s kitchen.

I have made it so easy for you to learn how to cook like my granny and mama did with cooking tutorials for each and every recipe in our cookbooks. I am a southern girl born in raised in Collard Valley in Polk County Georgia. We went to church on Sunday, school during the week, the grocery store on Friday’s and that was our life. No vacations, no camping, just plain old southern country people

NOW FOR THIS FAMILY RECIPE:
OLD FASHIONED MACARONI AND CHEESE
1/2 STICK BUTTER (1/4 CUP)

1/2 CUP SIFTED FLOUR

1/2 TSP. BLACK PEPPER

1 TSP. SALT

4 CUPS MILK

4 CUPS SHREDDED CHEESE (USE 2 CUPS IN SAUCE)

3 CUPS COOKED MACARONI NOODLES

1 CAN EVAPORATED MILK

IN A LARGE SKILLET OR SAUCEPAN MELT THE BUTTER. ADD SALT, PEPPER AND SIFT IN FLOUR. WHIISK UNTIL BLENDED EVENLY. BROWN ON HIGH HEAT AND THEN ADD 4 CUPS MILK. KEEP ON HIGH HEAT UNTIL IT THICKENS AND STARTS TO BUBBLE. TURN OFF HEAT AND ADD 2 CUPS SHREDDED CHEESE. MIX WELL. SAUCE SHOULD BE CREAMY.


POUR SAUCE OVER COOKED MACARONI. MIX AND POUR HALF INTO LARGE CASSEROLE DISH (SPRAYED WITH COOKING SPRAY FOR FAST CLEANUP) SPRINKLE 1 CUP CHEESE OVER TOP THEN ADD REST OF MACARONI TO TOP AND TOP WITH LAST CUP OF CHEESE AND POUR 3/4 CUP EVAPORATED MILK OVER CASSEROLE. BAKE IN OVEN AT 350 DEGREES FOR 40 MINUTES. SERVE WARM. ENJOY Y’ALL.


OPTIONS: WHEN MAKING GRAVY ADD 1/2 CUP CHOPPED ONION TO BUTTER AND SAUTE BEFORE MAKING GRAVY.


OPTION: ADD 1/2 TEASPOON CAYENNE PEPPER TO GRAVY.
