High Alert: China Warns US Not to Provoke 'mishap' After intercepting US Ships in the South China Sea. China has sent a chilling warning to the US President Donald Trump not to provoke a "mishap" after US warships patrolled waters of the South China Sea last week, cause Beijing furious. US military said they twice sailed ships last week in the periphery of islands claimed by China as they sought to assert their authority in the region where a number of smaller nations also have claims for ownership of waters to US. One of these islands was Mischief Reef, where littoral combat ship Gabrielle Giffords travelled within 12 nautical miles of the eastern Spratly Islands which China, Malaysia, Taiwan and the Philippines all claim sovereignty in region.
