Abstract: A fact in the development of AI in Vietnam at the present time is that research activities have not been taken seriously. This makes it almost impossible to attract AI talents to work in Vietnam, because most of the leaders in this field want to do a highly research-focused and creative work. This is a huge barrier to Vietnam's competitiveness in AI on a global scale. VinAI Research is the first AI research lab in Vietnam with a focus on fundamental research. Our mission is to conduct high-impact research that pushes the knowledge frontier in AI and to accelerate applications of AI in Vietnam. We aim to increase the training capacity at universities and increase the content of AI technology for startups in Vietnam. The presentation will give an overview of VinAI's operating model, personnel and research activities within 6 months since its establishment.
