SOLO 100 (North) - How easy is it to find camps? Part 1|3

SOLO 100 (North) - How easy is it to find camps? Part 1|3 SOLO 100 - what does it mean? Well the the name says it all, going SOLO for 100km basically. What i am trying to achieve in this video series is to see if you can travel in South Africa for 100km at a time and see if you can find reasonable camps along the way, 2 days of a single direction and then another direction in a homeward bound direction.

In this the first part of the series i travel North from Cape Town South Africa to try and find camps every 100km. Is it possible? South Africa is a vast country with tons of diversity and ever changing terrain and scenery, we are extremely lucky to live here.

So my journey kicks off and i hit the road not knowing what lies ahead of me and if my goal is even achievable, but i soon realise that not only is it possible to do this but that there are real gems out there if you are prepared to let yourself go and just go with the flow.

My first stop ended up being some massively windy place called Trekoskraal, a camp right on the coast with ZERO wind protection at all, so much so that my Rooftop tent was actually closing on my in the middle of the night. The camp is remote and secluded with no one else around, you get that isolated feeling immediately on arrival and you just know this is going to be something special. It certainly was...Due to the wind though i am not sure i would like to stay in this place for a prolonged period of time, but i will definitely be going back with the family so they can experience this amazing place.

The following morning i head North yet again to see what lies further up the coast, driving through some very strange towns that i have never heard of in my life and pass by in the blink of an eye, you have to wonder what people do in these towns for a living, their choices are limited and you can see why there is always an appeal from small outlying times folk to move to the big cities rather. After an extremely (strangely enough) long day in the car, 100km in about 4hours i find my next camp, a little disappointed i end up finding another...more of that in the video!

My travels then turn me South East, a semi homeward bound direction. A day of frustration, being the end of the month, a Friday and a payday weekend was proving tough to find a camp to stay in. This fact made my task of the SOLO 100 a difficult one on it's last day, but still not impossible!

I hope you guys enjoy the video, watch out for the follow ups in this series, this is part 1 of 3 videos...
