Unived - Tasting All the Flavors

Unived - Tasting All the Flavors I've been curious about Unived and it's offer of vegan endurance gels and recovery mixes, so I was very happy that they reached out to me to test out some of their products. What I wasn't expecting was that they would send me all (or almost all) of their products. So, of course, I had to do a taste test. And I also tested them during a recent half marathon race as well as some long runs.

disclosures: these are products that were sent to me by Unived for purpose of review. No one is paying me to make this video or to use the gels. No one will have a chance to preview the footage before it goes up on YouTube.

There seems to be something for everyone, depending on what you're looking for in your marathon nutrition. Most gels do a great job of providing enough sugar, but what I tend to look for is sodium and caffeine. Unived has gels that range from 80mg to 277mg with caffeine amounts ranging from 50 to 100mg.

I enjoyed the salted caramel gel during my half marathon. My body seemed to respond well to the gel and sugars. And I was happy to have the sodium along. After the race, I had the Cream Vanilla recovery mix, which was tasty, easy to take down, and had 10g of protein.

Both the elite gels and the regular gels have 800mg of Betaine. And the elite gels have beta-alanine and sodium bicarb. I'm learning as to what these are intended to do and will continue testing these gels to see whether they can deliver on the promise. But, I will only be continuing to test some of them, as some of them have tastes that I don't particularly enjoy.

Here are my tasting notes:
1. Gel: Salted Caramel
131mg sodium. delicious. Tastes like a caramel sauce.
2. Elite Gel: Vanilla Sea Salt
277mg sodium. Tastes like ice cream
3. Gel: Choco Coco
good chocolate flavor. Not metallic.
4. Gel: Vanilla Orange
Sherbert or creamsicle. Better than I expected.
5. Gel: Espresso Cappuccino
Coffee. But a bit metallic
6. Elite Gel: Double Espresso
Coffee flavor. Metallic aftertaste
7. Elite Gel: Choco Fudge
Metallic medicine flavor
8. Elite Gel: Berry Blast
Raspberry medicine
