JUST BECAUSE THERE IS A DOG, DOESNT MEAN YOU GET TO SAY HELLO TO IT.

JUST BECAUSE THERE IS A DOG, DOESNT MEAN YOU GET TO SAY HELLO TO IT. JUST BECAUSE THERE IS A DOG, DOESNT MEAN YOU GET TO SAY HELLO TO IT.

One of the most common causes of dog reactivity is over socialisation.

Over socialising is where when you have a friendly dog (usually from a pup) you let them meet and/or play with every dog you see. This teaches the dog that every dog I see, I can pull towards, say hello to and it lends itself to the dog having no impulse control around other dogs.

Eventually (normally around the time they get a hormone surge) the dog is going to run into a dog they’re not compatible with and take a dislike to, this is when problems start.

In this clip I’m working with a bulldog mix, Margo has a tendency to get involved in things she shouldn’t and if the dog is close, she will pull towards it and if the dog takes a dislike or she takes a dislike to the dog, she can react.

This clip I’m teaching her, just because there is a dog there, doesn’t mean you get to say hello. Just because we’re walking with a dog doesn’t mean you get to say hello.

We’re teaching her a different way of being around other dogs.

With this, it leaves the door open to you being more selective about the dogs you introduce your dog to, without the dog losing its mind or thinking every dog they see, they. Can go over to.

Margo was really easy to work with, her owners have done a fabulous job with her, it was just some little things that needed tweaking to help her.

Don’t let your dog say hello to everyone it sees.

HELLO
