The Supreme Court has reiterated that the final NRC must be published on or before August 31, after the apex court had extended the deadline by one more month on July 23. Briefing newspersons after a crucial hearing today, lawyer Salman Khurshid said that the top court indicated that the NRC authorities cannot do away with names of individuals who are Indian citizens by birth according to the Citizenship Act.
However, a formal order by the court in this regard is expected on Tuesday.
