Ashford Is Too Far

Today I had to make the journey by road from Ramsgate to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. It took me nearly two hours to do a journey that would take 50 minutes if the roads were clear. As today, they are very often choked for one reason or another.

If plans to close the NHS stroke unit at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate go ahead, this is the journey ambulances carrying stroke victims will have to make from Thanet.

There is a small window of opportunity to get the correct specialist medical attention to a stroke victim. From the moment the stroke occurs the clock is ticking.

My journey today demonstrated that Ashford is too far.
