It’s no surprise that the Nintendo Switch is quickly becoming many people within the games industry’s favorite console of all time. That isn’t to say that we don’t all celebrate when games like A Plague Tale: Innocence, God of War, Death Stranding, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice and Apex Legends come to other platforms and take the world by storm. But the Nintendo Switch is unique from its current console-space competitors as it has something the other two don’t. Options. And if there is one thing that adults with little free time love more than showing off their big fancy gaming hardware and screen they never use that can display 16K content at 1900 FPS at a refresh rate that makes their neighbors look like a slideshow in the Matrix, it’s the allure of having options for multitasking in a world that is seemingly moving so rapidly and expecting so much out of us that we literally have to impede our cognitive abilities with drugs and alcohol to slow everything down.
What is the answer that Nintendo has in the old warp pipes that will address future-proofing concerns in the face of Xbox Scarlett, PS5 and Google Stadia? Well, it is obviously the subject of this video and the worst kept secret in the industry, the Nintendo Switch Pro.
The Nintendo Switch Pro COULD serve as the device that saves the Nintendo Switch from the fate of the Wii U and, more aptly, the PlayStation Vita by keeping the Switch relevant for another 2-4 years until Nintendo can make a console that hopefully brings it FULLY in line with what Sony and Microsoft are doing again. Or...they could make it at best a largely irrelevant quarter-step incremental upgrade that does little to nothing to actually change the relevance or capabilities of the console like the New Nintendo 3DS or DSi, or at worst...they could go full Wii U.
