- A more common entity seen in paediatric age group compared to adults possibly due to more
compliant and elastic lungs in young individuals
-Giant Pulmonary hydatid cysts are cysts measuring in size more than 10cm and not many cases have
been discussed in literature.
Management
The treatment for pulmonary hydatidosis has been surgical with conventional open thoracotomy
procedure. However with development in technology and expertise Video Assisted Thoracoscopic
intervention has become one of the preferred choice.
VATS has the advantage of minimally access technique as well as magnified visualisation in the
thoracic cavity
