I install my first strap buttons on a ukulele. You can, too! People go to any lengths it seems to avoid drilling holes for strap buttons into their ukuleles. I understand. I put this off for a long time, but finally the desire have strap buttons, and the frustration of looking for alternatives, led me to do the right thing: install strap buttons myself. If you don't want to do this, call around for prices to have a guitar tech do this in your area. I watched several YouTube videos and spent a couple hours thinking about this before I tried. Now, I think I could do another ukulele in just a few minutes.

Drilling into the bottom was easy. Should be no problem as long as your uke has a solid piece of wood inside to drill into! If not, a strap button should not be installed.

Drilling into the neck is a little scary, but understand ukulele manufacturers choose wood that can be drilled into. If you have a decent ukulele there should be no problem.

I would take as long as necessary to get acquainted with the process before trying to do it. One video I saw a guy drilled a hole into the wrong place in the ukulele neck! Another fellow choose a drill bit that was thicker than the button screw!
