An elaborate coronation ceremony was held Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Thailand as the country crowned its new king, the first monarch it has seen in nearly seven decades. King Maha Vajiralongkorn was officially crowned as a "divine monarch" after completing intricate Buddhist and Brahmin rituals and said in a speech that he would "reign with righteousness."
He was joined by new Queen Suthida after a surprise announcement three days before the coronation that he had married a fourth time.
